Treating it as a disaster with hygienic precaution and social distancing, volunteers in 15 states have served more than one million people.
In the Philippines local AMURT & AMURTEL volunteers responded to massive floods in early August in and around Manila. Throughout the month they distributed cooked food, bread, drinking water, and hygiene items to more than 10,000 people.
In Cagayan de Oro the AMURT team distributed food rations to 400 families at Lower Balulang, Cagayan de Oro City. After recent flooding in Southern Philippines more than 1,000 persons died or are missing and 300,000 have had to flee to shelters after their homes and villages were washed away. AMURT Philippines has several teams in the area assisting the affected communities.

In the summer of 2011, the UN identified severe drought in the Horn of Africa. Affected countries in this East African region include Somalia, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya and South Sudan. Considered the worst in 60 years, the drought caused a severe food crisis across the region, affecting close to 10 million people.
AMURT’s Food For All (FFA) program in Washington DC has seen a four-fold increase in demand for food over the past four weeks, increasing from 140 weekly food recipients in late March to 503 in late April. The new clients include senior citizens with underlying health issues, people with disabilities, single parents with children to feed all day at home and the recently unemployed, especially those laid off from restaurants.
In 2022, with many clients finding jobs, FFA went back to basics, supporting more homebound people. 50% of the new clients in 2022 were in poor physical or mental health, had disabilities, were elderly or were single mothers. FFA takes pride in helping provide a sense of security for those in unstable circumstances.
Food for All is a non-profit organization that strives to provide emergency food to those who are in temporary situations of need. Our clients are generally elderly citizens, handicapped, or single mothers with young children. Each week we accept referrals from social workers who have been contacted by individuals, and in some cases, we receive calls directly from individuals in need.
