In 2022, with many clients finding jobs, FFA went back to basics, supporting more homebound people. 50% of the new clients in 2022 were in poor physical or mental health, had disabilities, were elderly or were single mothers. Earthquake Relief in Turkey

AMURTEL has begun relief efforts in Turkey, focusing first on getting blankets and food to survivors. Our teams area also preparing to set up Psychological Trauma counseling centers along with Child Friendly Spaces. Read more

Türkiye Earthquake Response

The AMURT & AMURTEL teams in Turkey are providing psychological first aid courses, restocking medical clinics and delivering pinpointed non-food supplies like tents, blankets, clothes, hygiene items, and toys.

Apart from goods received from abroad, the teams are able to procure most items locally at favourable prices, so donating funds is the best way to support the teams. Read more

Hurricane Fiona – Puerto Rico

With over a million people left without power or clean drinking water, Puerto Rico is reeling from the fury of Hurricane Fiona. Just 5 years since Hurricane Maria devastated the island, families were finally getting back on their feet. And now Fiona has taken out the power grid and caused massive flooding, leaving devastation in its wake. The psychological cost of the war between Russia and Ukraine

On May 3, 4, 5 and 6, 2022, Melinda Endrefy, AMURTEL’s emergency psychologist, and Dr. Ismael Eduardo Pérez García, Ph.D. in Legal and Forensic Psychology, and researcher at the Legal and Forensic Psychology Unit at the University of Santiago de Compostela., conducted in-depth assessments of twenty Ukrainian people that had been displaced by the war for at least one month with the aim of identifying primary psychological damage or symptoms of PTSD. In 2021, FFA broadened the scope of its program, responding to anyone seeking assistance, and not just those who are elderly or home-bound. Given the pressures of the pandemic, we wanted to ensure that food was one less thing for people to worry about, freeing up their scant resources for other pressing expenses.We were especially happy to support the newly unemployed and those forced into quarantine. Super Typhoon Rai Philippines

Super Typhoon Rai crashed into the country’s southeastern islands on Thursday, levelling homes and bringing winds of about 195km/h (120mph).
