AMURT and AMURTEL (Ananda Marga Universal Relief Teams) are responding to the floods in Louisiana that have now caused 13 deaths and has been labeled the worst US disaster since Hurricane Sandy. However, despite the severity of the situation, the disaster is not getting the attention that it deserves.

Louisiana mother Harmony Hobbs, stated, “Almost everyone we know – mostly young families like us, with small children and or elderly couples have lost everything… Students do not have shoes for school, and even if they did, their teachers may have lost everything, or their schools may be full of water. The devastation will have a far reaching rippling effect.”

30,000 people have been rescued, and the disaster has caused damage to 40,000 homes. We need to be there for the people of Louisiana. Their struggle and grief is far from over. The AMURT and AMURTEL teams have made contact with several organizations and our volunteer team is already in Louisiana helping with the clean up effort.  We are accepting more volunteers to do clean up, gut homes, gather supplies, and distribute food.

Funds are also welcome to help with the effort.
