AMURT & AMURTEL responds to multiple hurricaness and flooding in Haiti

Several Hurricanes hit Haiti in September 2008. They brought heavy flash floods and mudslides, submerging large areas with a potentially devastating long-term impact for several hundred thousand people.

AMURT & AMURTEL’s rapid response team based in the worst hit town of Gonaives currently distribute food to over a third of the city’s most vulnerable. Each family receive food for two weeks. We work with community leaders and small associations to determine the best way to get the food to them. We also direct a food for work program that helps to clean out 50 submerged schools which will bring the children back to a regular life routine sooner. In Anse Rouge a food for work program is repairing the rural roads. All in all an average of 10,000 people are benefited daily through these various programs.
